  • Topics To Avoid On A First Date

Topics To Avoid On A First Date

    Let’s talk first dates!

They can be pretty awkward. You’re going out with someone you’ve only met for 5 or 10 minutes, or maybe not at all. It’s always a challenge to break the ice with someone you barely know. Personally, I don’t believe in keeping any topic limits because I value respectful, honest, and upfront communication.

When I want to discuss a potentially sensitive subject, I usually break the ice by asking, “Are we even allowed to talk about X on the first date?” It’s funny to see how people react, and it often leads to some really interesting conversations.

Of course, some topics are better left for later dates. Here are five topics to avoid on a first date:

    1. Your Trauma/Trauma Dumping

Don’t talk to your date about your laundry list of trauma, years of therapy, and mental illness. It’s a date, not a therapy session. I am a mental health advocate and have gone through my fair share of trauma in life, but this isn’t something to discuss on a first date. Your date didn’t sign up to help you process this.

    2. Exes

First dates are all about having a good time and keeping things lighthearted, fun, and cheerful. It’s best not to bring up any exes. Please don’t talk about how you hate your ex because he ruined your life and left you with trauma. Lastly, avoid generalizing an entire gender based on a negative experience.

Once you’ve established a connection with someone, there will be plenty of time to discuss these topics. If someone likes you, they’ll be open and accepting when the time is right. But dropping this on a first date is a huge turn-off immediately.

    3. Politics

Politics can be a touchy subject that sometimes leads to disagreements or hurt feelings. It’s usually a good idea to steer clear of political discussions on a first date unless you are open-minded and respectful of each other’s beliefs.

One of my friends shared, ‘I like to know where my date stands politically. I usually find out before agreeing to go out because I wouldn’t want to date a Republican. What do you think?

    4. Religion

Religion is a sensitive topic for many people, and it’s best, especially if you are not tolerant of other people’s beliefs and religion, not to bring up this topic on a first date.

    5. Money

My friend was excited about this date with a woman he liked. They went to this fantastic restaurant with a sea view and had a great conversation until she dropped a bombshell.

She flat-out said, “I expect my man to pay for everything, and if this goes any further, I want you to provide for me and take care of my financial needs.” My friend was immediately turned off, and there was no second date after that.

Talking about money is a huge turn-off on a first date. It’s best to avoid this topic entirely unless your date brings it up first.

Lastly, it all depends on the date. Some people you immediately feel comfortable with, open up to and talk about anything and everything. Others you don’t feel comfortable with at all and prefer to keep the conversation on very casual topics such as travel, hobbies, food, and entertainment

What would you rather not talk about on a first date? Let’s go in the comments 😀

  • How to Feel Like A Princess

How to Feel Like A Princess

Did you ever want to be a princess?

As a child, I often dreamt of being a beautiful princess who was always pretty, going to fancy balls and wearing pretty princess dresses and tiaras.

Even though we can’t all be like Grace Kelly and marry a real-life prince. That doesn’t mean we don’t have what it takes to be a princess!

Being a princess isn’t just about having some fancy title, tiaras, or a grand palace (although I certainly wouldn’t complain)! But, it is about creating a life that embraces your inner princess and makes you feel regal and cherished.

Welcome to my guide on “how to feel like a princess.”  Today on Sidewalks, we discuss 17 ways to live like the princess you already are.

    Be a kind human

Being a princess goes beyond wearing a crown – it starts from within. It’s about being kind, caring, respectful, and pleasant to those around you. Show patience and kindness to everyone. And always remember to be humble and gracious.

    Become the essence of elegance

Remember, elegance has hardly much to do with wealth. It’s about carrying yourself with grace, style, poise, and confidence. Talking loudly and swearing is a huge turn-off if you want to feel and be treated like a princess. Treating others with kindness and respect is the truest form of elegance.

Take the time to look fabulous at all times.

Always make sure to exude a magnetic charm in your aura.  If you want to command attention, you have to dress the part. Can you honestly expect anyone to take a princess seriously if she’s wearing sweatpants and your appearance is poorly put together? Invest time in dressing well and choose stunning outfits that make you feel like royalty.

    Eat energy-giving foods

Give yourself a bright start to the day with a delightful breakfast, and add some fruits, nuts, and avocados for that extra oomph. In the words of legendary Virginia Woolf, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.”

    Embrace personal growth

Treat yourself to solo adventures for self-discovery and devote time to hobbies and skills that nurture your personal development. Last summer, I spent two months living in NYC and enrolled in a scriptwriting workshop. It was a life-changing experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone. My advice to all the women reading this is to keep pushing yourself to grow, and you have the unlimited capacity to make your life anything you want.

    Get Moving

Take regular long walks/hikes in nature, go for a refreshing swim in the pool, or channel your inner Pilates princess. The key is to carve out time for positive and healthy activities for your body.

    Embrace royal etiquette

As a princess, taking etiquette seriously is essential. Carry yourself gracefully with poise and impeccable posture in any setting. Master the art of conversation by knowing which topics are suitable and which to avoid in public gracefully.

Don’t give up on your dreams, princess!

Remember, as a princess, the sky’s the limit, and no dream is too big for you. Always maintain a sense of motivation. It’s the secret to leading a fulfilling and happy life.  A true, honest, beautiful princess dedicates herself to making her dreams come true and giving herself the best life can offer.

Freshen up the energy in your space

The first thing I love to do each morning when I wake up is to open my windows and light a candle or incense to sweep away any lingering negative vibes. This clears up the air, fills it with fresh and soothing aroma, and puts me in a positive mood.

    Romanticize daily tasks

Savour your morning tea/coffee in your cherished teacup instead of a plain glass. Adorn yourself with lovely jewelry simply because it brings you joy. Let the delicate pieces you wear remind you that you deserve to feel special daily. Decorate your space with beautiful, soothing things that bring you peace and joy.  Take time to admire and enjoy the little things within and around your home.

    Keep it clean

Establish a daily beauty routine for cleaning your face, teeth, nails, lips, hands, and hair in the morning and at night. Make it fun by using colourful soaps or decorating them with cute stickers.

    Always smell divine

Use scented lotion (nothing too strong that gives you a headache) and spray perfume before leaving the house. And remember to keep a travel-sized deodorant or perfume with you for quick touch-ups throughout the day!

    Handle everything with grace

Even though you’re a princess, you’ve got to learn how to handle the inner Diva. There may be moments when you get mad, but you never want to get all Mean Girls and bitchy on someone. Remember: Classy always wins.

Learn to appreciate the finer things in life

To run with royalty, you must learn to appreciate the finer things in life. Become a jewellery connoisseur and learn about different artists and their works. For instance, you can learn about the works of pioneers such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Van Gogh. Or immerse yourself in the opera world. You get the point.

Indulge in a day of pure indulgence

Unwind with a relaxing massage, rejuvenate your skin with a luxurious facial, or treat yourself to any other spa treatment that pampers your body and soul. Take the time to relax and let the stresses of life melt away as you embrace the pure bliss of a luxurious spa day.

    Surround yourself with beauty

Sprinkle your living space with vibrant fresh flowers, infuse the air with the scent of roses, and adorn your home with charming decorations. Surrounding yourself with beauty will whisk you into a world of relaxation and luxury.

    Treat yourself to something extraordinary

Whether it’s a stunning piece of jewelry, a delightful indulgence, or a rejuvenating yoga retreat, pampering yourself with something unusual is a beautiful way to feel like a princess.

  • The Ultimate Guide To A Timeless Wardrobe

The Ultimate Guide To A Timeless Wardrobe

A few years back, my daily struggle began.

Picture this: it’s 6 am, and I’m getting ready for work. I stare at my wardrobe, feeling like it’s been hit by a tornado.

Do I have to battle with what to wear again?

The wardrobe is jam-packed. I can spot over 50 pieces of clothing without even opening a drawer. Clothes are scattered all over. I glance at my watch and realize that 40 minutes have passed, and I still don’t have an outfit.

This was a frequent occurrence. I’d often find myself in front of a closet full of clothes but with nothing to wear, despite regular shopping trips.

Sure, it’s not a life changer in the bigger scheme of things, but the stress can be so real.

    Am I the only one??

As I’ve matured, I’ve chosen to approach shopping more mindfully. Instead of giving into the impulse to buy whatever catches my eye, I focus on purchasing things I genuinely need.

This shift has helped me avoid accumulating unworn items with price tags still attached, which I would later donate after a year.

Simplifying my choices is really important to me. LatelyI’ve naturally been drawn to effortlessly chic looks that not only make me feel good but also exude confidence.

So, in today’s post, we discuss building a wardrobe that reflects your style and needs without overspending or buying in excess. We are all about sustainability and repeating outfits here!!!

NOTE: I want to emphasize that this post is not sponsored. The recommended items are truly my favourite everyday essentials, and I do not receive any commission from them.

    1. Functional Undergarments

    a. The Lace Thong

As a woman, I never really got the lowdown on what kind of panties would be the best fit for me—you know, comfy, and that doesn’t show through clothing. After trying many options, the lace thong is my go-to winner and the most reliable choice. I’ve collected several in different colours, especially neutral tones, for practicality.

    Where to Buy:

    Where to Buy:

    AERIE- Sunny Blossom Lace Thong

ANN SUMMERS- Sexy Lace Planet Thong

    b. Bras

There are three essential bras that every woman should have in her wardrobe.

    The Everyday Bra-

Behold the ultimate queen of all bras!

This is the one you’ll reach for every morning. Naturally, it’s got to be super soft and provide excellent support because it will be your go-to bra. Opt for a nude shade or grab at least four in neutral tones to ensure it doesn’t peek through your outfits. Sure, neutral bras might seem a tad boring, but they’re essential when it comes to function!

    A plunge bra-

Make sure you have the right bra for every outfit in your wardrobe. A plunge bra is essential for low-cut tops and dresses, offering a natural lift for your breasts.

     Strapless bra/stick-on bra-

This versatile garment is a wardrobe essential. Whether paired with a boatneck sweater, a tube top, or a strapless dress, it’s all about finding the one that fits you just right and makes you feel comfortable and confident wearing it.

    Where to Buy:

    AERIE

    NORDSTROM- Everyday Bra

    SKIMS

    MARKS & SPENCER- Stick-On Bra

    2. Tank Tops

Tank tops are an absolute must-have in any wardrobe! Whether you’re aiming for a casual or more formal look, tank tops are incredibly versatile and can be paired with just about anything. This timeless piece of clothing has the power to tie together any ensemble.

    Where to Buy:

    SKIMS- Soft Lounge Tank

    SKIMS- Cotton Rib Tank

    3. The Plain White Tee

My signature style revolves around donning simple tees. I adore the versatility of a classic crisp white or neutral tee as it effortlessly complements almost every item in my wardrobe. Its simplicity makes styling and accessorizing a breeze.

    Where to Buy:

    REFORMATION- Classic Crew Tee

    GAP- Organic Vintage Crewneck T-Shirt

    4. The Relaxed Linen Shirt

I love linen shirts. They breathe beautifully in the summer and project an air of casual sophistication. However, remember that linen rumples and wrinkles all the time, and pressing it is not fun.

    Where to Buy:

    ARITZIA- Relaxed Linen Shirt

    5. The Go-to Blue Jeans

When it comes to jeans, my golden rule is simple: they have to fit like a dream. Ill-fitting jeans are a major fashion faux pas!

A great pair of jeans is a wardrobe staple that can last for years and take any outfit to the next level. Plus, they’re so versatile that putting together a killer look is a breeze.

My personal favourites? High-rise, high-waist skinny jeans in light, medium, and dark wash. They’re effortlessly stylish and go with just about everything!

    Where to Buy:

ARITZIA- The 90s High-Rise Cigarette Jean

ARITZIA- The Arlo High-Rise Straight Jean

    6. Pants

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself reaching for pants over jeans more often. They’re just so cozy and versatile! About ten years ago, I picked up a few pairs from Uniqlo, and they’ve become my go-to choice. They go with everything and are super comfy, which is a big plus for me!

    Where to Buy

THE FRANKIE SHOP- Straight Tailored Trousers

    ARITZIA- Hudson Chino Pant

    UNIQLO

    7. Over-Sized Blazer

Just so you know, oversized blazers are a must-have for a hot girl!!

They effortlessly elevate any outfit, adding a touch of sophistication and style, even if you’re throwing something on in a hurry. They give off a polished, preppy vibe without much effort.

    Where to Buy:

THE FRANKIE SHOP- Oversized Boyfriend Blazer

    ETSY- Floral Blazer Jacket

    ARITZIA

    Where to Buy:

    ARITZIA- Contour Mini Tube Dress

    Where to Buy:

    J. CREW- Cardigan Sweater

    GUEST IN RESIDENCE- Everywear Cardigan

    10. Skirts

I adore skirts. My closet is brimming with skirts in a variety of styles. I prefer a pencil skirt for formal events and a black miniskirt for a night out. I absolutely love high-rise, fit-and-flare, or A-line midi skirts. They are easy to wear, accentuate my waist, and make my legs look longer. Additionally, they help conceal stomach bloating, which is always a plus.

    Where to Buy:

    Where to Buy:

  • 16 Things Every Person Should Do For Themselves Once a Year

16 Things Every Person Should Do For Themselves Once a Year

    1. Take a solo trip

It doesn’t have to be extravagant or pricey – even a quick weekend getaway to a nearby city can be a great way to unwind and explore. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, it’s so important to carve out some time for yourself and have a change of scenery. Visit a new city or country, try a local restaurant, check out an art gallery and soak up the nightlife to break free from the daily monotony.

Plan a staycation in the mountains if you’re searching for peace and calm. This way, you can spend quality time in nature, meditate, and reflect on your inner self. The idea is to do what really makes your soul happy.

    2. Declutter your space

Imagine waking up to a clean and organized space every morning, with only what you need and love. Sounds refreshing, right? It’s time to give yourself the gift of intentional living

Let’s start with your space – say goodbye to anything you haven’t worn in the past year and donate it to an organization you care about. It’s a great way to give back and make room for new clothes that you’ll actually wear. While you are at it get rid of old bills, statements, toys, and anything else that’s just taking up space.

And when you’re done, rearrange your space to create a more functional and inviting atmosphere. You deserve to live in a healthy, decluttered, and organized space

    3. Get a complete body checkup

Did you know that getting a complete physical checkup from your doctor at least once a year is a great way to take control of your health? It doesn’t matter how old you are; establishing fitness and health goals is always a good idea. Also, remember to visit your dentist and get checked by a gynecologist every year.

    4. Review your year

Every year, around my birthday, I indulge in a beautiful ritual of self-reflection. I pull out my photos, videos, and journals and relive all the fantastic moments I’ve experienced. It’s a great way to celebrate your progress, evaluate your accomplishments, and set exciting new goals for the future.

I am always amazed at how far I’ve come, and it gives me an incredible sense of motivation to note the areas of my life that still need improvement.

    5. Take yourself out on a date

I wholeheartedly believe that taking yourself out on dates is an absolute must – no matter whether you’re single or in a relationship. Here are some amazing solo date ideas that will make you fall in love with yourself all over again.

Put on your pretty dress, do your hair, bring out your red lipstick, and take yourself out to dinner at a restaurant you’ve always wanted to go to. Forget about the cultural notion that you can’t dine alone in a restaurant. On the contrary, it was one of my life’s most liberating, calming experiences. Try it for yourself, and you’ll see what I mean.

    6. Call/meet a friend you haven’t spoken to in years

Do you have a friend that you haven’t spoken to in years? Well, why not give them a call or arrange a meet-up? Spend hours reminiscing about all the good times you had together and laughing until your cheeks hurt. Trust me, it’s one of the best feelings in the world!

    7. Go over your finances

Believe it or not, organizing your finances is the first step towards a more fulfilling life.

Take a closer look at your monthly and annual income and expenditure. Discover what you’re spending the most money on and why.

Are you addicted to shopping for clothes, even though you already have a closet full of them?

You can say you want to stop spending money on clothing, but you’re not going to stop if the drive behind it is an insecurity about the way you look.

It’s time to break the cycle and overcome any insecurities or impulsive behaviours driving your spending habits.

    8. Surprise a loved one

How about doing something extra special and unexpected for someone you care about? Surprise a friend with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, schedule a relaxing massage for someone who really needs it, or treat a loved one to a fancy dinner.

Just one act of kindness can brighten someone’s day and make them feel valued and loved. An unexpected kind gesture can make all the difference in someone’s life!

    9. Buy a meal for someone who can’t afford it

Small acts of kindness can go a long way in making the world a more compassionate place. Consider buying a meal for someone who can’t afford one. Try to do it as often as you can. Know that your kind gesture has a ripple effect, inspiring others to do the same and positively impacting the world.

    10. Dedicate a month to eating just healthy food

Imagine dedicating an entire month to eating nothing but healthy, nutritious foods!

Say NO to fried food, junk food, soda, white bread, ice cream, or sugary treats for at least one month. You’ll be amazed at your increased energy level, improved concentration, and overall physical health. I know from personal experience that doing this brings excellent results.

    11. Do a social media detox

Say goodbye to the mindless scrolling, endless comparisons, and self-doubt that social media often brings. It’s time for a social media detox! Imagine a life where you unplug and connect with things that genuinely bring you joy and energy.

Disconnecting from social media for at least a month can be the perfect opportunity to focus on self-care, personal growth, and connecting with the people and things you love. You might be surprised at how amazing you feel!

    12. Read a book

You know that amazing book that’s been sitting on your shelf for months, just waiting to be read? It’s time to finally dive into it and discover the incredible world waiting for you! And don’t stop there – look at the other books on your shelf that have been collecting dust. Make yourself a cozy spot, grab a cup of tea, and transport yourself to another world.

    13. Reconnect with your inner child

How about trying out a new hobby you’ve always wanted but never had the time for? It could be anything from pottery, gardening, embroidery, painting, and cooking. Hobbies are a fantastic way to reconnect with your inner child and have some fun in the process.

    14. Plan a family picnic

How about gathering your family and heading to a peaceful, isolated location for a delightful picnic? Bring mouth-watering food, drinks, and dessert and enjoy them on a cozy picnic mat. Lie down, look at the twinkling stars and just have heart-to-heart with your loved ones. It’s moments like these with your loved ones that make life worthwhile.

    15. Treat yourself to new lingerie

Buying a new pair of lingerie for yourself can be such a satisfying experience. I relish treating myself to new lingerie every six months, and it feels incredible!  It can be confusing to know when to replace your lingerie. I replace them when they no longer fit me or after a year.

Now,  you don’t have to throw away anything in good condition. You can add new pieces to refresh your collection instead of waiting for all the old items to break, rip, or go bad.

    16. Last one. Golden Rule: Love yourself.

Do it at least once- no, do it as much as you can. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you’re not good enough. You are valuable, no matter where you are in life. This one thing is essential; if you can accomplish it, all the other things on this list will fall into place. So keep going and believe in yourself!

  • A Page Turning Book to Get Lost in

A Page Turning Book to Get Lost in

What books have you read lately? Anything good?

Here’s a book that I devoured  in less than a week-

Reading this book felt like stepping into someone’s extremely fascinating life. I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t put the book down. I devoured every word, staying up until 5 am for three nights in a row just to find out what happens next.

It was not the writing as much as the story that captured my heart.

Evelyn Hugo’s character was so brilliantly portrayed that I believed she was a real-life person. The book was so immersive that I felt I was with her, experiencing everything firsthand.

When I finished the book, I was so invested in Evelyn’s story that I had to Google her to find out if she was a real person.

What I really appreciated about it was how it shed light on what was happening behind the scenes in Old Hollywood. Instead of glorifying it all, the movie touched on some of the less glamorous aspects of the industry.

For instance, it showed how actresses like Evelyn were forced to hide their true ethnicity and how many of them resorted to extreme measures like cabbage soup diets and smoking cigarettes to maintain their slim figures. It was eye-opening and made me appreciate the book even more.

It taught me so much more about homosexuality during that particular period, the experience of being in an abusive relationship, and the different forms of love that one can have.

After reading this book, I realized that love comes in many different forms, although to the outside world, it can seem very black and white. Every loving relationship is different and doesn’t need to fit into a certain category. Rather, it should be celebrated for its uniqueness. I thought it was such a friendly reminder that we should embrace and celebrate all forms of love and relationships.

As much as I tried to slow down my reading to extend the experience, I couldn’t resist turning the pages. In fact, it was the only book I’ve ever read that made me forget I was even reading!

  • Dating Stuff I’ve Learned…

    Dating Stuff I’ve Learned…

    1. Don’t force it

You know what they say: You can’t force a spark with someone. But that doesn’t mean you should give up after just one try! Sometimes, it takes a little time and effort to get to know someone and develop a genuine connection.

Those first few dates and conversations can be a great indicator of whether or not there’s something special there. Even after the first few dates, if the person is a maybe for you, then don’t settle for it and make it linger, even if the person seems like a perfect match on paper.

Trust me, you deserve to be with someone who makes you feel excited and truly happy, and the same goes for them!

    2. Physical attraction is important

It’s perfectly natural not to be physically attracted to someone. It doesn’t make you shallow; it makes you human, and it just means that we all have our own preferences.

Now, is it possible that you will grow to find someone physically attractive over time? Absolutely, yes, especially if there’s a strong intellectual bond.

On the other hand, if you have to put in a lot of effort to find someone attractive initially, it might not be worth it. In my experience, attraction can work both ways, but it’s important to be true to yourself and follow your instincts.

    3. They should be interested in you

So, here’s the thing, girl. If he’s taking hours or even days to reply to your texts, he’s not worth your time. Don’t make excuses for him, like his phone died or aliens abducted him or whatever.

If he doesn’t make an effort to see you, spend time with you, or give you the attention you deserve, then know this: he’s just not that into you. Don’t waste your time on someone who doesn’t want to make an effort to keep you around. Just accept it and move on gracefully.

    4. Clear communication is essential

Maybe you’re looking for something casual and fun, a chance to let loose and enjoy life without any serious commitments. But what if your date is hoping for something more long-term, even marriage?

Communicating your intentions early on is essential to avoid misunderstandings or heartbreak later. So get out there, have fun, and be honest about what you want in this connection!

    5. Attachment/ Infatuation is not love

Let’s imagine you’re out with your girlfriends, and suddenly, bam! You meet this tall, handsome man with the most gorgeous eyes you’ve ever seen. You hit it off immediately and spend the night dancing and chatting. He says and does everything right, and you’re feeling over the moon because you’ve finally found the one.

But wait, sweetie – don’t let your excitement cloud your judgment. Keep your eyes open for anything he might not be saying. It’s totally cool to be excited. Make sure you’re taking things one step at a time.

    6. Actions speak louder

Remember not to fall for his sweet talk that’ll give you diabetes.

Instead, pay attention to his actions. Be a good observer and focus on what he does, not what he says. It’s good to be understanding and empathetic, but don’t make excuses for someone’s bad behaviour. Their past trauma or sad childhood is no excuse for treating you poorly.

Those red flags you’re ignoring at the beginning could be the reason for your break up in the end. Keep your eyes open and stay true to yourself!

     7. There needs to be a friendship

Imagine having a friend who is not just amazing but also someone you could fall in love with.

Take a moment to reflect on their qualities and whether they align with what you look for in a friend. Can you see yourself hanging out with this person as a friend? Do they have qualities that you appreciate in a friend?

I believe that a friends-to-lover relationship is one of the most fulfilling connections one can experience. Don’t you agree?

    8. Be honest with yourself

Be honest with yourself about your wants and needs. Don’t let others—and by others, I mean society—decide what you should or shouldn’t like.

It’s okay to be an independent, self-reliant woman who loves it when a man pays on the first date. Yes, we know you can open your own door, but do you like/prefer it when a date does this for you?

So, embrace your needs,  express them with confidence,  and don’t be afraid to be your authentic self.

    9. Don’t compare them to your past

It’s not fair to bring your past emotional baggage into your present relationships. Don’t keep comparing your past relationship struggles to your current situation.

We all have dating traumas, but punishing the new person for something they didn’t do is unfair. Go into a new situation with an open mind and a blank slate.

    10. It’s not going to last, and that’s okay

You need to accept that most people’s time in your life will be temporary and still enjoy and appreciate the time you have together anyway.

I stopped looking at failed relationships as a waste of time and switched my brain to be grateful for experiencing someone keeping space for me in their heart.

    11. Don’t fall for a person’s potential

This one’s going to hurt to read, but I have to say it anyway: pay attention to who they are now, not what they were like when you first met or get hung up on hopes of the version you have of them in your head. Accept that who they are now is who they are now.

Look at how they treat you and talk to you. If they did that on the first date, would you agree to a second date? If not, don’t agree to keep seeing them.

Investing your time, effort, and energy into a relationship with someone who treats you like they don’t care about you will not eventually pay off.

  • How to Not Commit Murder During PMS

How to Not Commit Murder During PMS

The other day was really tough for me. I was hit with some intense PMS and ended up breaking down in tears for  no reason, which was frustrating. On top of that, during this time, I feel so blah and less than confident about myself, and when I look in the mirror, I feel like I look like Shrek!

    Can you relate?

And don’t even get me started on the intense anger and irritability that I felt. It was too much to handle. I was picking up fights with my boyfriend for things that happened six months I ago. It was intense, to say the least.

However, I’ve learned that there are strategies we can use to help us feel our best during this time. It all starts with responding to ourselves with love and respect.

Doing so allows us to embrace our femininity and feel confident in our skin. That’s why I want to share with you some functional strategies that have helped me feel empowered, confident, and beautiful during PMS .

    Let’s dive in!

    1. Get in a workout

    I hear you.

During PMS, you feel completely drained and exhausted, and you don’t want to leave your cozy bed, let alone hit the gym.

But trust me, you don’t need to lift weights like a pro athlete to reap the benefits of exercise.

As someone who regularly jogs, I know that exercise can make a world of difference in easing PMS symptoms.

There’s no need to push yourself too hard. Try some light stretching, yoga, or simply going for a stroll. The important thing is to get moving.

Exercise releases happy hormones, and happy people don’t commit murder – it’s science! So, taking good care of yourself during this time is essential to help ease those monstrous PMS symptoms.

    2. Eat nutritious food

Did you know that eating magnesium-rich foods can do wonders for your health? That’s right! Foods like avocados, nuts, and seeds are not only delicious but also great for your health. I have experienced it personally, and I can tell you that a magnesium deficiency can lead to migraines and worsen PMS symptoms, including bloating, dizziness, fluid retention, and sugar cravings. Trust me, I’ve experienced it firsthand.

Eating a balanced diet that includes tons of leafy greens, smoothies, oats, and fresh vegetable soup is essential to feel comfortable in your body. After all, you are what you eat!

I always try to avoid salty and processed foods. However, let’s be honest; unhealthy food cravings can be tough to resist. Listen to your body and indulge in those cravings, like spicy BBQ fries or chocolate, even if they’re unhealthy.

While I try to avoid them for most of the month, a few days before my period, I let myself indulge in specific irresistible cravings. Ignoring them only makes them worse, leading to unhealthy binging. So, take care of yourself and enjoy the foods you love.

    3. Pamper yourself

We all know that every woman is unique, and so are her PMS symptoms. But guess what—there’s something universal that can help us all feel better during that time of the month—and that’s pampering ourselves!

Treat yourself to a luxurious spa appointment, get a fabulous mani-pedi, indulge in a relaxing massage, take a long and soothing bath with Epsom salts and essential oils, and add a little softness to your life. How amazing does that sound?

Remember, the key to surviving PMS is to be kind and respectful to yourself. So go ahead and pamper yourself, girl!

    4.  Sleep

Have you ever felt the magic of a good night’s sleep or a cozy nap during the day? It’s truly a wonderful feeling! And let me tell you, nothing should ever come between you and your precious sleep. Especially when dealing with PMS, fatigue and exhaustion can be real struggles. But don’t worry. The best thing you can do is to take a nap and let your mind and body relax and recharge. Your well-being is worth it!

    5. Meditation

Feeling moody and all over the place during PMS is the worst. I’ve found a little trick that helps me stay grounded and calm my mind. Want to hear it? Meditating takes 10 to 20 minutes out of my day, and it works wonders! I sit still, take deep breaths, and listen to some OM chanting or a guided meditation from the Waking Up app. It works like magic, I tell you! Just give yourself a break for a few minutes and see how it does wonders for your mental health.

    6. Track your period

Are you struggling to keep track of your periods and their symptoms? Well, worry no more! Apps like Clue have been super effective in helping women manage their periods. I’ve been using Clue for years, and it’s been a real game-changer. It allows me to keep a digital diary of my PMS and period symptoms, which helps me predict and track my triggers, mood, productivity, and energy levels. And if that’s not enough, it even sends me reminders when I’m about to start my period!

So, my dear friend, don’t wait any longer if you’re not already tracking your period. Download the Clue today and experience the benefits for yourself!

  • Our Beachy Escape to El Nido

Our Beachy Escape to El Nido

Picture this: we arrived at Puerto Princessa in the early morning, just in time to catch the sunrise. We booked a van from the airport to El Nido, which meant a four-hour drive ahead of us. We were hyped up, but also felt like we could sleep for a week. I mean, who wouldn’t be excited about the adventure that was about to start? The drive was both exhilarating and exhausting, and the views were stunning. We were basically half asleep for most of the journey, but the excitement kept us going.

On our long ride to El-Nido, we decided to stop and freshen up at a local restaurant. As soon as we got there, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that they had fresh buko juice! To top it off, we caught an amazing sunrise that left us in awe. It was a fantastic way to kick off our vacation!

The hotel we had initially booked turned out to be a total nightmare. I mean, everything was just wrong, from the staff to the amenities. It was just a total disaster. But we didn’t let that get us down. We decided to explore the city and check out other hotels, and that’s when we stumbled upon the H Hotel.

The H Hotel was the complete opposite of our previous hotel nightmare. It was so cool. The best part? It was just a short walk away from all the good stuff – restaurants, bars, the beach, and coffee shops. We knew instantly that this was the perfect spot for us!

As we patiently waited for our turn at the reception, my cousin and I couldn’t help but notice the stunningly cozy and aesthetic waiting area. It was so inviting that we couldn’t resist taking a few pictures to capture the moment.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the booking we were hoping for. Instead, we scored an amazing apartment just a five-minute walk from there. It was the perfect alternative. The apartment had a cute little pool surrounded by plants. It was so cozy and secluded that it almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

…fueling our bike at the station before we heading out to explore the island.

lunch views from Big Bad Thai

…mirror selfies for the win >>>

…exploring the local clothing and jewellery stores…

…taking a quick break on the side of the road to sip on some deliciously refreshing buko (coconut) water, which was the perfect way to cool down from the scorching heat.

One of the highlights of our trip was driving our scooters to Nacpan Beach!! The drive was really scenic, full of lush greenery on both sides of the road. It felt like we were driving through a jungle! It was definitely one of the coolest things we did on our trip.

    …at the Nacpan Beach!

Watching the sun go down at the beach during the golden hour is one of my absolute favourite things in the world! It’s just so peaceful and beautiful <3

Later that night, we found ourselves lost in the beauty of the beach. With our eyes fixed on the starry sky, we were spellbound by the beauty that surrounded us. It was like a scene straight out of a fairytale, and we couldn’t help but feel captivated by the magic of the moment.
trust me it looks even better in person

    Pasta + Vino = ❤️‍🔥

Oh my gosh, let me tell you about the best meal we had at Gorgonzola Pizza & Pasta! Their Pesto Rosso and Tropicana pizza are absolutely to die for! I couldn’t believe how delicious they were. If you’re looking for a chill spot to grab a tasty meal with your friends, this place is perfect. It’s located right in El Nido town, so you can’t miss it!

    We all SREAM for…

Yum! For dessert, we indulged in some delicious ice cream. We couldn’t resist trying the manga, buko-pandan, and double Dutch flavours—they were amazing.  While we were walking around, we explored the cutest little town and savoured every bite of our sweet treat.

    Keep Life Simple.

The next day, we were heading to the vanilla beach when…

one of our bikes broke down… 🙁

…but  we didn’t let that get to us! We just started joking around and chatting to pass the time. We took some pics to remember the moment because, you know, no vacay is ever perfect.

    Juicy Ripe Mango Shake 😀

As usual on the phone *eye roll*

    Just OK Chicken & Waffles

We were famished by the time we reached Vanilla Beach. We wandered through a charming strip of restaurants, bars, and gift shops, taking in the delightful ambiance.  After scouting around, we decided to dine at this amazing beachfront restaurant named Tanaw. The food looked so delicious that we gave in to the temptation of ordering a variety of dishes to try.

After that, we hit the beach…

    💋

    Smile! You’re on camera 😀

Collecting Shells at the beach <33333333

….and it was EPIC!!  It was worth all the trouble we faced earlier!

    Golden Hour 😍

As we were floating in the cool water, we watched the sun slowly melt into the sky. It was one of the best things we did on our trip. The sunset was just so freaking beautiful like always. I can still remember how amazing it all felt, and I know I’ll never forget that moment. It was one of those rare moments when everything felt perfect, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for being alive.

As the sun was setting, we had a special treat booked – a massage at the beach. The soft sound of waves and the vibrant colours of the sunset created an enchanting setting. And as we lay under the starry sky, feeling the tension melt away from our bodies, we knew we were having a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we’d never forget.

    Sheesha night at Pukka Bar.

Sipping on a Gin & Tonic on a Hammock at the roof top bar…

We finished off the night with some yummy pizza and then headed over to this super cool rooftop bar. Wanna know what made it even better? We got to relax on a hammock and enjoy the most amazing drinks ever. And guess what? We ended up sharing the hammock with a couple of tourists from London and had such a great time chatting with them. The bar had such a chill vibe.  It was simply awesome!

The last day of our trip had arrived, and it felt like time had flown by. Just yesterday, we arrived, and now we were already packing up to leave. We had booked a van to take us back to Puerto Princessa, which was a four-hour drive from El Nido – our final destination. But before we head to the airport, we’re making one final stop at a local eatery to savour some delicious and refreshing coconut water.

Our faces might look a bit down in this selfie, but it’s only because we didn’t want to say goodbye to paradise just yet. It was tough to leave such a beautiful place behind, but we’re grateful for the memories we made there.

If you need some suggestions, we’ve got a list of all the cool places we think you’d absolutely dig-

Where to stay: We had the most amazing stay at The Apartments. You’d also enjoy H Hotel, Frendz Hotel (for all you party animals), or this beautiful sea view villa at Nacpan Beach.

Where to eat: we savoured every bite at  Big Bad Thai, Shawarma House (for post-midnight munchies), and Gorgonzola Pizza & Pasta. Since Definitely check out this list for the best food in El Nido, we enjoyed a late night massive falafel wrap that was bursting with flavor at Holly Smoke.

Where to get a delicious massage:  we treated ourselves to not just one, but two amazing massages at the Organic Spa. It was pure bliss! If you’re looking for a way to unwind and indulge, I highly recommend booking a massage at the Organic Spa.

Where to club/partayyyyy:  Amigos, Frendz hotel

Thank you for reading, and feel free to ask any questions! And thank you to El Nido for such a wonderful time. xoxoxoxo
