A Spiritual Poem About Loving What You Do

    Hello Readers,

I hope you are all doing well.

As you may have noticed, I haven’t been posting regularly on the blog.  This is mainly because I have just started a new project that I cannot wait to share with you all very soon.

Also- does anyone read The Prophet by Khalil Gibran? This book is absolutely amazing, and I am very inspired by it, especially this spiritual poetic essay that I am sharing with you today-

    Here goes-

Then a ploughman said, Speak to us of Work.

    And he answered, saying:

“You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth.

For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons, and to step out of life’s procession, that marches in majesty and proud submission towards the infinite.

When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns to music.

Which of you would be a reed, dumb and silent, when all else sings together in unison?

Always you have been told that work is a curse and labour a misfortune.

But I say to you that when you work you fulfil a part of earth’s furthest dream, assigned to you when the dream was born, and in keeping yourself with labour you are in truth loving life, and to love life through labour is to be intimate with life’s inmost secret.

But if you in your pain call birth an affliction and the support of the flesh a curse written upon your brow, then I answer that naught but the sweat of your brow shall wash away that which is written.

You have been told also that life is darkness, and in your weariness you echo what was said by the weary. And I say that life is indeed darkness save when there is urge, and all urge is blind save when there is knowledge,

    And all knowledge is vain save when there is work, and all work is empty save when there is love;

And when you work with love you bind yourself to yourself, and to one another, and to God.

And what is it to work with love?

It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth.

It is to build a house with affection, even as if your beloved were to dwell in that house.

It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy, even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit.

It is to charge all things you fashion with a breath of your own spirit, and to know that all the blessed dead are standing about you and watching.

Often have I heard you say, as if speaking in sleep, “He who works in marble, and finds the shape of his own soul in the stone, is nobler than he who ploughs the soil.

And he who seizes the rainbow to lay it on a cloth in the likeness of man, is more than he who makes the sandals for our feet.”

    But I say, not in sleep but in the over wakefulness of noontide, that the wind speaks not more sweetly to the giant oaks than to the least of all the blades of grass;

And he alone is great who turns the voice of the wind into a song made sweeter by his own loving.

    Work is love made visible.

And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.

For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man’s hunger.

And if you grudge the crushing of the grapes, your grudge distils a poison in the wine.

And if you sing though as angels, and love not the singing, you muffle man’s ears to the voices of the day and the voices of the night.”

Thank you so much for reading. Have an amazing, wonderful and magical day/ night everyone!

    xx

  • 10 Life Lessons I Learnt in My 20s

10 Life Lessons I Learnt in My 20s

When I turned 20, an older friend told me it was my time to explore. I had ten years to learn, grow, experiment, and push my limits.

In a few months, I turn 30. In the last ten years, I’ve travelled the world, quit my job, dated all the wrong ones, cried my heart out, suffered many losses, and created a career as a writer — something I could’ve never imagined.

It’s easy to forget that most of these changes didn’t happen overnight. We rarely ever wake up one day and suddenly notice these wild, life-altering changes in ourselves.

My 20s were a wild rollercoaster ride. Here are some ten life lessons I’ve learned:

    1) Without rain, nothing grows

It’s inevitable to meet unexpected situations in life. Life rarely goes as planned. Even if you bring an umbrella, you’ll end up getting wet. So, dance in the rain. Embrace the storms of your life.

Remember, rejection is redirection. Keep moving forward and creating new doors. Preach your success from mountain tops. Because with hard work, determination and passion, the sky is the limit.

    2) No one truly cares about you

I spent my early 20s chasing the people who didn’t care about me and giving no time to those who loved me the most- my family. Why do we ignore the people who care about us and care about those who ignore us?

Most people do not care about you. As harsh as it may sound, it’s the truth. I learned this after my dad passed away. It doesn’t have to be sad but liberating, so we too can stop obsessing about what other people think.

    3) Be your hero

Nobody is coming to save you. No one is coming to pay your bills, get you a better job, or fix your health. Wake up. Take responsibility for everything in your life. Be your hero. That’s where you start.

    4) Do it alone. Do it broke. Do it tired. Do it scared. Just do it!

Six months ago, I quit my corporate job to pursue writing. The decision wasn’t an easy one. The only value that dreadful job provided me was financial comfort and safety. Now, I wake up excited and don’t dread Mondays. That, to me, is success.

One day, we are all going to die. Life is too short to be working jobs we hate. While your legs are strong and your mind is clear, it’s never too late to follow your interests, curiosities, and passions.

Start a blog. Write a book. Share your voice with the world. Use your imagination to bring fresh and exciting things to the world. Do not leave it to others to choose your destiny. Make a plan, and work toward it. Take little steps every day, consistently. Never give up on your dreams, even if the whole world turns its back on you.

    5) You’re going to be lonely

When I look back at myself in my 20s, what I remember the most is being alone and lonely. Rarely, if ever, does anyone ask you, “how was your day?”

You are no longer coming home to home-cooked meals. I wasn’t even coming home to anyone. I remember the frequent nights I cried in my room alone, staring at the depressing brown wall wishing I wasn’t feeling the way I was.

Those lonely cold nights taught me to be strong alone. It made me wise, mature and fearless.

    6) Most friendships don’t last

Most friendships don’t last forever. There will come a time when you’ll naturally drift away from all your friends. You grow and evolve. You’ve moved on with your life, and so have your friends. It’s not their fault or that they are bad people. It’s just life.

    7) You are going to feel lost

For the longest time, I had my whole life figured out. In the last six months after quitting my job, I travelled. I met people who inspired me. I spent time reading and learning new things.

Of course, there were many days when I felt lost, not knowing what step to take next. But, not for a second did I regret having taken time off from my life in Canada to enhance my writing further.

This time to do nothing was essential for the journey I am embarking on. Have I achieved all that I wanted to do by taking this gap? No. Not even close.

None of this would have happened if I didn’t feel lost. We need to feel lost…to know there is a path to take…we learn in the dark..then bring in the light.

    8) Travel alone

A few years ago, I wanted to go to Costa Rica. I asked all my friends. None of them could make it. So, I decided to go alone. I ended up staying in a beautiful villa deep inside a rainforest, sharing the space with other 20s-something travellers from Europe. It was so exciting to meet people from different cultures and live together under one roof. It was one of the best trips of my life.

Book that flight. Explore your favourite city. Don’t deny yourself the most memorable life experiences, even if everyone else says no.

    9) Love yourself first

No one will love you if you don’t love yourself first. It’s healthy to spend time alone. Take yourself out on dates. Schedule some alone time as much as possible because that’s the only way to get to know yourself on a deeper level.

Listen to happy/nostalgic songs, watch a funny film, make something, or take a walk. In other words, don’t wait for someone else to offer you the love you want and deserve. Start being intentional about how you love yourself. It makes all the difference.

    10) Honor yourself

Listen to your mind, body and soul. Give it what it needs. Do the things that make your body feel good. Take your time moisturizing your skin every morning. Run. 30 mins a day. Stretch it out. Meditate. Here’s an app for meditation that’s been a game changer for me.

How old are you now? What life lessons have you learnt in your 20s? What advice would you give to your younger self? I’d love to hear in the comments below.

  • 9 Hot Tips For The Best Period Sex.

9 Hot Tips For The Best Period Sex.

You should be able to have sex whenever you want to. Life is too short to NOT have sex for a week every month. Especially not when our bodies crave it the most!!!

Of course, you may be strongly opposed to the idea, considering how disgusting we assume it to be (thanks, society) and think it’s the worst, and that’s fine, too.

Period sex can feel like stepping into an unknown territory which can cause fear. And, no, it will not be some insane bloody crime scene (although there will be blood).

With these hot tips, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect during period sex with a partner or sex with yourself.

    1) Goodbye cramps

Orgasms are the best cure for your cramps! You may think popping your favourite pain killer will do the trick and can contribute to a degree. Period sex can be messy, but there’s nothing as powerful as orgasms during period sex that will take away all the period pain. It’s because, with every orgasm, serotonin and dopamine are released into the body, and it’s the best painkiller you can give all those cramps. Whether it’s sex with a partner or sex with yourself, that orgasm is going to deliver.

    2) There’s even more lubrication

There’s nothing different about period sex, except that there’s even more lubrication. If your vagina is on the dry side or has difficulty producing enough lubrication naturally, then period sex will likely be a welcome break from needing lube. The blood acts as extra lubrication, which is incredible. The wetness feels unbelievable!!

But before you start thinking the whole “ew, blood” thing again, think about this: Yes, you’re bleeding when you menstruate. But, most of what you’re seeing is the shedding of your uterine lining. Not all of what you see is blood, as there are other fluids in there as well.

    3) Heightened sex drive

Do you also feel like your hormones are bat-shit crazy during that time of the month? Use that in your favor1 so you and your partner can both enjoy the intensity you have sexually. Since period sex is taboo, it feels a bit risqué, making it hotter. Plus, you are extra-horny during your period, so to have sex and not hold back just because you’re on your period is a liberating feeling.

    4) Use a condom

    Safety first, always!

Using a condom (any form of barrier birth control, and for oral sex, a dental dam) during period sex is a must for STI prevention. It makes for easier cleanup, which is essential if your partner gets easily nauseated about blood and lessens your chance of contracting bacteria. If blood in the vagina or uterus gets exposed to bacteria during unprotected sex, there are more places for bacteria to grow.

    5) Pick a comfortable sex position

The position is everything. Missionary or any position that involves having you on your back—is your best bet when your blood flow is on the heavier side. It’s simple: if you’re on top, there’s likely to be more blood than on the bottom. If you want something gentler—or feel bloated and gross—give in to the endless joy of spooning.

    6) Use a dark-coloured towel

I know, this is super obvious but it needs to be said.

You may worry about creating a mess, or your partner may be grossed out.

It’s easier for all the bloody mess to distract you and your partner from enjoying the sex. Yes, I agree having sex on your period may seem a little messy in theory, it’s not the bloodbath you’re envisioning.

You can’t forget a (dark) towel to put on your bed because things WILL get messy. You can even invest in a “sex blanket” designed to absorb liquids if you’re feeling a little fancy. Doing this will keep you from thinking about the mess. Instead, you’ll be present in the act, not the sheets or the situation.

    7) It’s super intimate

It feels even better than regular sex- as if being on your period makes everything more sensitive and receptive to touch. Exposure to bodily fluids like blood can create real intimacy; some even believe that period sex is soul-binding with the other person. Soul binding or not, it’s super intimate to be with your partner in such a vulnerable, un-perfect state.

    8) Yes, you can still get pregnant

Many things come up when people talk about period sex, and something that doesn’t come up enough is that you CAN get pregnant when you’re bleeding. So many people with vaginas have irregular cycles, so if you don’t know exactly when you’re menstruating and ovulating, you CAN get pregnant.

    9) The Aftercare

You may need to clean up after sex, especially on heavier flow days. Hopping in the shower after will make you feel the cleanest. Another option, keep a packet of baby wipes on hand for cleanup. Baby wipes are the holy grail for sensitive skin.

Is there anything you would add to this list? I’d love to hear in the comments below.

  • 6 Powerful Life Lessons Blair Waldorf Taught Us

6 Powerful Life Lessons Blair Waldorf Taught Us

She’s the best of the best. Never predictable, dull, or one-dimensional- Blair Cornelia Waldorf, otherwise known as the Queen B of Constance, Upper east side, and our hearts!!

The enigma of Blair Waldorf was in the complexity of her character. There’s no one as ICONIC as her. My life has never been the same since I watched Gossip Girl for the first time over a decade ago. I’ve always said that Blair is my spirit animal. Here are SIX powerful life lessons that have always stayed with me-

    1) Be ruthless and unstoppable in working towards your goals.

Ladies, if you have a dream, don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of it!!

Blair is notoriously driven, goal-oriented, and an influential leader willing to do anything it takes to accomplish her goals. Despite being a child of privilege with power and influence, she didn’t want things handed to her.

For instance- going into fashion would’ve been a piece of cake for her. It would have been easier for her to ride her mother’s wave of success, but she didn’t want to lurk in her shadow and be labelled as a nepotistic girl. So, she chose the more challenging way up the ladder and proved herself worthy of her mother.

Her unstoppable drive to become a powerful woman was BEYOND comparison. She was a force to reckon with and was cut-throat and ruthless in getting what she wanted. You must be relentless and leave no stone unturned in making your dreams a reality.

    2) Never put your fate in someone else’s hands.

Blair imparted her powerful wisdom to me early on in life: You can’t leave your success to the moon and the stars. There’s no elevator to reach the peak, you have to climb up the mountain. Success is made up of blood, sweat, and A LOT of tears!!!

She hustled with hard work, dedication and, of course, A LOT of scheming to make her way into the most exclusive clubs, sororities, and societies that would give her the power and status she desired. After all, “destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen.”

    3) Know your worth.

Ladies, know your worth and recognize how amazing you are. Her magnetic presence and powerful energy charmed monarchs from across the globe.

She’s one of the most self-assured and confident fictional characters ever to grace our televisions. However, that wasn’t always the case. She struggled with deep insecurities, low self-worth, and an inferiority complex that led to an eating disorder. Yet, she knew her worth and wasn’t willing to settle for anything less.

The powerful essence of her story was rooted in the quest for self-love and being her person. Her quote: “I’m not a stop along the way. I’m a destination.”  has left a deep imprint in my mind.

    4) You don’t need a man to fulfill you.

Without a doubt, Blair was an inspiring role model for young girls, especially when she respected herself as a woman, embraced her sexuality and fought for her dreams.

Blair was always so passionate about being an independent young woman. She refused to let any man of her past or present define her.

Make yourself your top priority and focus on what you want from life before love or marriage is an option. How can you be happy with someone else if you aren’t happy with yourself?

Blair had the love of Chuck Bass, a very powerful and wealthy man. But, she wasn’t happy being a trophy girlfriend or wife. She desired to create her path in life, make something of herself, and then stand shoulder to shoulder with Chuck as an equal.

I loved that she refused to commit to Chuck until she accomplished her goals because “I have to be Blair Waldorf before I can be Chuck Bass’ girlfriend.” Ah, yes, feminism.

    5) Never, ever give up

Blair lost her acceptance to Yale, but that made her only more determined. She wasn’t the one to accept defeat. She was the writer of her destiny and still got into an Ivy because of her courage and perseverance. She took over her mother’s company. She started her fabulous fashion line. Let’s not get started about the legendary Chuck-Blair bond, which of course, wouldn’t have been epic without her love, commitment and sacrifices.

    6) The art of fashion

Blair Waldorf is famous for many things; her killer style is on top of that list. She used fashion as a powerful tool to show the world the woman she passionately desired to be. Her fabulous outfits made me want to throw away my wardrobe so I could make room for a style like hers.

Through her trademark headbands, bold and dramatic patterns, and ridiculously high-fashion pieces, she quickly became a force in the fashion world.

Her style exudes power and influence while also possessing a softness similar to her personality that not everyone sees, which is a trait I love about her most. She never failed to make a fashion statement, even when her world was falling apart, and she felt deeply sad and heartbroken

What is your favourite life lesson from Blair Waldorf? Would like to add anything to this list that I haven’t mentioned? I’d love to hear in the comments below.

  • 9 Powerful Foods to Boost Your Sexual Health

9 Powerful Foods to Boost Your Sexual Health

Sex coach Simone Farschi, founder of the pleasure plus community has recommended these nine deliciously healthy foods that are good for you and help boost your libido.

Here are the top nine powerful foods to feel sexy-

    1) SPINACH: Popeye was right about spinach! Besides building big muscles, eating spinach can help you in a sexy mood by increasing blood flow below the belt. Packed with magnesium, a mineral that increases blood flow leading to crazy good orgasms!

    2) VITAMIN D: D is for desire. An essential part of every sexually healthy person’s diet. You can get vitamin D from both foods, such as mushrooms, egg yolks, fatty fish, etc.

    3) MACA: boost your libido with this powerful Peruvian plant. MACA has been shown to improve semen production, increase sexual desire, and regulate hormones.

    4) GINSENG: Have you ever tried Ginseng Tea? Red ginseng extracts might be used as alternative medicine in menopausal women to improve their sexual life.

    5) WATERMELON: aka the new Viagra. Watermelon contains a compound called citrulline, which the body converts to arginine. Arginine relaxes blood vessels in the body like Viagra does, ultimately increasing libido.

    6) ASPARAGUS: rich in vitamin B6 and folate (helps make red blood cells), which can boost arousal and orgasm.

    7) APPLES: regular daily apple consumption can boost sexual pleasure. They can stimulate blood flow to the sex organs, helping with arousal.

    8) CUCUMBERS: these are loaded with vitamin C and manganese, supporting sexual health, elevating energy, and increasing your sex drive.

    9) VITAMIN E: aka the “sex vitamin.” It increases libido and heightens desire. Consume 2 to 3 hours before any sexual activity 😉

IMPORTANT: Eat at least three of these foods daily: the more, the better.

Do you have someone in mind that could benefit from this? Share with them here to show them you care ☺

  • 8 Step Guide to Sex After Baby

8 Step Guide to Sex After Baby

Giving birth changes everything. You’re a parent now. When your body goes through such a powerful transformation, it’s only natural to feel discomfort, pain, and tiredness. Your priority is the miraculous new life you have created. Sleeping, eating, reading, drinking tea, you name it, and giving birth changes it.

Does it mean you have to say goodbye to a sexy time with your partner? Giving birth does not mean saying farewell to your juicy sex life. The health experts recommend waiting for at least six weeks after giving birth before having sex again. But, you take as long as you need before you feel comfortable. Listen to your body and give it all the time it needs.

Sex can be as satisfying as before your baby came along with these nine juicy tips approved by sex educator and intimacy coach Simone Farschi

    1)Yoni Steaming

Yoni steaming is an ancient, powerful ritual and practice used in many cultures to support yoni wellness and feminine power. The healing herbs in the steam gently penetrate deep into the vaginal canal, cleansing the womb of toxins.

It’s excellent practice for restoring connection from our female body, increasing yoni/uterus healing time from birth, cleansing, and getting you tuned in.

I would highly recommend you check out the ultimate guide to yoni steaming that you can do from the comfort of your home.

    2) Sex without sex

Fact: After birth, our bodies are less forgiving when it comes to penetration without full arousal.

You may be well ready for sex but are worried that it might be painful. Most mothers find it challenging to get it on after childbirth, making it more challenging to go into sexual space mainly because our bodies are not ready.

Talk to your partner, and let them know you desire an intimate sexual connection. Forget about penetrative sex for a while. Instead, explore new and exciting ways to give and receive pleasure.

HOT TIP: Don’t underestimate the power of deep intimacy of eye gazing or holding hands that have nothing to do with physical touch.

Even if it’s just a few minutes to kiss before falling asleep at night. Let your partner know that you enjoy pleasure outside of lovemaking by saying, “I love it when you gaze into my eyes and gently kiss my lips.” Even if it’s a single moment, allow yourself to stay there a little longer. Take it slow. Enjoy each other’s bodies and enjoy the now without expectations of where it will lead.

    3) It’s okay to ask for help

Your mind and body need time to adjust physically and emotionally to this beautiful and exhausting new chapter of your life.

This can be a real challenge for most mothers. Next time you feel overwhelmed about your to-do list, pause and check in with yourself. Be honest about your needs.

Give yourself a break. Lean on your partner because trust me, they might not know what you need help with- so this is your opportunity to let them in.

    4) Reconnect with your voice

Own your birth story. Claim your experience. This is something we often overlook. Be the writer of your story. Remember how strong you are and all the times that courage has pulled you through.

Reconnecting your voice starts with getting clear about your feelings and what you desire. You will find you have a new voice; she is strong, and it may feel overwhelming to see this new woman, but she’s a warrior, and she’s fierce. Embrace it.

    5) Set aside time for romance

Don’t let the romance fizzle out. Once the baby is a few months old, it might be wise to plan weekly date nights where you and your partner get to spend some much-needed alone time. Go out for a romantic candlelight dinner. Indulge in sensual massages or foot rubs. Cuddle with your partner, falling asleep in their arm. Let yourself feel your partner’s body. This will help you surrender yourself into a space of safety and receiving.

    6) Keep talking to each other

You need each other. Now, more than ever. Speak honestly with your partner about what feels good and what doesn’t. Many couples struggle to adapt to their new roles as parents. Check in on your partner daily.

Discuss: How are you feeling? How are we? How are we as parents? How are we as a couple? What can we do to be there for each other right now?

Remember, you are two people nurturing a new life together. Give space and honour each other’s experiences and emotions while supporting bringing it back to a plan for togetherness.

    7) Be kind to your body

The first few months after your baby’s birth are the toughest. Your body is recovering. Your body goes through numerous changes throughout pregnancy, including hormonal changes and weight gain. One of the major concerns women have is with their post-pregnancy body.

Let go of any unrealistic expectations of what your body needs to look like post-childbirth. Find acceptance in the present state of your post-birth body. Always remember how powerful your body is, and the miracle is performed. Yes, your body did that!

Be kind and accepting of your body. Share positive messages with yourself. Your body and outlook on the world have changed, and that is beautiful, wise and attractive.

    8) Invite new pleasure into your life

Take time to move your body by doing daily stretches, taking walks with your baby, or indulging in long relaxing baths. There’s no rush. Start where you are, and listen to your body. The happy hormones released through exercise will do wonders for your mental health. Take a few deep long breaths. You got this, Mama! And for an added dose of self-love, schedule yourself that massage you so deserve!

Is there anything else that you would like to add to the list? I’d love to hear your thoughts/comments on this.

Remember to share this with a momma to brighten up her day <3

    xx

  • My Beauty Cocktail: Rachel Raj

    My Beauty Cocktail: Rachel Raj

Rachel Raj is a badass Toronto-based fashion stylist, makeup artist, and art director. I’ve never met Rachel, but I could feel her fierce and powerful energy radiate through our conversations online. Here, she shares the best drugstore makeup, a HOT styling tip that changed her world, and a super-easy hack to remove glitter.

When did you know you wanted to be in the creative field?

I was around 12 when I realized how intrigued I was by fashion. My mom made sure I was fashionable and into art and craft ever since I was a kid. And honestly, I think creativity flows in my family, although nobody ever pursued anything in fashion, design or arts. So someone had to take the first step, haha.

How would you describe your work?

My work is subtle and fierce at the same time. There’s art and beauty and a hell lot of concepts, all in one frame.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

From literally everywhere. I mean, recently I went to the city with my friend, and kid you not, I felt so inspired. I don’t know if it was the crowd, the lights, the wind or the birds. I don’t go looking for inspiration, and it just comes to me.

I have read that research is incredibly important in your field of work? Where do you start? Do you keep any journals or mood boards?

Research is an integral part of the process. The better the research, the clearer you are on what exactly has to be done. When I started, I did not understand the need for research, and my overconfidence got the best of me. Eventually, I acknowledged how significant research is in the whole process with time. I have a journal wherein I note down every small detail I think is important. It is also a space to welcome new concepts and ideas. I also make mood boards prior to shoots. And trust me, mood boards literally make everything so easy.

Is there anything that frustrates you most about your line of work?

It has to be the way freelancers are treated. We’re not given as much respect, or our word is taken for granted. Models are body-shamed, while most brands and people don’t even understand why a stylist is required for a shoot or the significance of a stylist.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far? What makes it special?

I think the first time I was approached for styling on a freelance basis. Yes, that definitely was the highlight because the industry is very saturated. People are not willing to hire on a freelance basis or freelancers who have fierce concepts. But apart from that, I think the time when I worked for Femina Miss India when I was 18, a second-year bachelor’s student. I got to work with some amazing models and Miss Universe 2017 and Miss Universe 2016. It was an amazing opportunity.

Looking back on your beginner days, how do you feel your work has changed or evolved?

Trust me when I say this, I’ve grown so so much. When I started as a stylist, I directly rushed to the part where I got to dress models. But now, when I work, I put in a lot of thought as to which model would fit the theme, what garments to source and how, what background would be right for the frames, what mood I am creating, etc. I remember when I started doing make-up on models, it was straight-up funny. I didn’t even focus on the blending of base makeup 🙁

Could you select one or two looks you have done that have special meaning for you?

There was this one impromptu shoot, and it was the first time working with this photographer- who is now my favourite photographer to work with. We decided to do an indoor shoot with absolutely no idea where to shoot, styling, or anything else.

We looked for a model in the morning and gathered at noon to begin. I had a few garments with me but no idea how to incorporate them. But we just went with the flow, and things started looking good for us. We shot in a vintage Indian kitchen with power suits on the models, which turned out good. That shoot is so special to my heart.

What would you like to accomplish in the next three years?

I honestly do not know. I’d love to work with a magazine or a big brand, but I haven’t really given much thought to it.

Let’s chat beauty. How do you define beauty?

I think beauty is very subjective. For me, beauty has never been about the complexion, body type or how clear your skin is. It has always been about how I’ve been treated and your intentions toward people. Oh, also, some people have super-defined faces, and I’m here for it, haha xD.

What’s your skincare routine like? AM &PM

Oh, I am so bad at skincare. I wash my face when I wake up and use moisturizer, and the same when I go to bed. I did start using a couple of serums, but my skin is so sensitive that I never make an effort to invest in new products. Currently, I’m using this serum.

How do you care for your hair?

I don’t really do much. Maybe apply oil with honey or curd once in a while. And definitely condition, yes.

    Blow-dry or air-dry?

Air-dry if I ain’t going anywhere and hair straightening if I’m heading out!

Three products you always keep in your bag?

    Lipstick, hand Cream, and perfume.

The best beauty tip you’ve ever received?

While filling your brows, don’t go too hard on them. There’s a high chance of pulling out brows while doing it.

    What’s your beauty philosophy?

I am honestly a ‘comfort over fashion’ person. There are days when I dress up like a doll, but other days I make sure I’m as comfortable as I can be whilst looking good. And I believe everyone has their definition of beauty and fashion. You define your beauty and fashion the way you like it, with sophistication and decency.

Favourite piece of clothing you own?

It has to be my mum’s beige mesh top from the 90s. The embroidery on the neckline is just so gorgeous.

Must-have clothing item everyone should have?

A basic blacktop. It just saves the day. Oh, also, a good pair of sneakers because why not!

    Vintage or new?

Vintage anyday. It’s the aesthetics that have me hooked.

    Who’s your favourite style icon?

Is it weird if I say I do not have a style icon? And if I did have, it would be my mom. Oh, when I tell you, she looked like a goddess back in her days, and she still does.

Has any hot styling/fashion tips she passed on always stayed with you?

I can’t think of styling or fashion tip, but I can tell you what changed my world. As a kid, I faced a lot of racism since everyone around me had a lighter complexion. Some colours wouldn’t suit me, or at least that thought. I remember my mom telling me, “When you walk out of that door (the house), walk with confidence. Walk like you own the world, and nothing can ever stop you”. And I have lived by that ever since.

    What’s your favourite makeup look?

I personally love the shimmer makeup look and graphic eyeliners. I love how the shimmer pops out on my skin. But apart from that, I really like the pop colour on eyes and anything that looks bold.

The million-dollar question: how does one remove glitter?

So, if you’re applying glitter for a shoot, ask your makeup artist to use aloe vera gel as the base for the glitter over your foundation. Aloe Vera gel isn’t visible on the camera, and it is so easy to remove. If you’re using aloe Vera gel for everyday makeup or something, make sure you apply enough moisturizer beforehand. I generally don’t use a primer on myself; moisturizer gang all the way! And when you’re removing the glitter, put some Vaseline or oil on your cotton swab. It’ll shorten the process and not irritate the skin.

Do you have any useful tips/tricks for people who suck at eyeliner?

Applying the perfect liner is a tricky business. ⅘ days I walk out with both my eyes having the perfect liner. My only trick is that I don’t doubt myself while putting on the liner. I make sure I don’t let the eyeliner have power over me. Also, make the borders first, then fill in.

    Drugstore makeup or designer?

Ah, this is a tough one. Until two years ago, I never owned designer makeup. So for me, designer makeup is for days when I want to feel special or if it’s an occasion. But daily, I would definitely choose drugstore makeup.

Who are the stars from your drugstore makeup aisle?

Um, definitely Maybelline, followed by Lakme, Revlon and Nyx.

    What’s your morning ritual?

I wake up grumpy and annoyed. I check my messages, and I speak to my parents first thing in the morning before speaking to anyone else.

What unwinding ritual helps you relax after an exhausting day?

I am so happy when I go to bed, because FINALLY! I pray every once in a while and binge watch The Office, Friends, or Schitt’s Creek while I eat my comfort food is my favourite form of relaxation. And, the other way I can relax is taking a trip to literally anywhere.

What little things bring you happiness?

A gust of wind, seeing birds fly across the sky on a sunny day, having blueberry ice cream or cheesecake once in a while, and my friends calling me now and then to check up on me even when I fail to do so.

Thank you so much, Rachel. You Rock!!!
