    Eyeshadow is cool, as is mascara, but no makeup product holds my heart like lipstick. On those weird days when my face looks tired or just off somehow, lipstick is my saving grace. When I have five minutes to get ready in the morning, a bright red lip is the first thing I grab. It’s my version of having a basic white tee with blue jeans. When I’m in a bad mood, a vibrant, bold red turns that right around. I always carry red lipstick in my bag to make myself more beautiful.

    So here is a list of some amazing red lipsticks and formulas you will want to consider on your next hunt for the best red lippy! 

     

    MAC Ruby Woo

    Starting off with the classic MAC Ruby Woo, such a classic, especially for a newbie to red lips. Being my personal first try at red lipstick, you cannot go wrong with this one. Considering it is a matte formula, it will last you all day! 

    Lancôme L’absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick

    With a red for every desired look, this has to be one of the most luxurious reds I’ve tried, and with the packaging that comes with it. The sheen and pigment this lipstick gives off are incredible! You feel expensive with this lipstick on you; a must-try for sure!

    Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick 

    Don’t underestimate a drugstore red lipstick, though; Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick in “Red For Me” is made to suit every skin tone. With the colour tested on 50 different skin tones, it is tailored for everyone; again, for a beginner, you will love this! 

    Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick 

    Sticking to budget-friendly, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick has an array of red shades in the line, and you will surely find something you will love. This formula packs a punch on pigmentation. However, it can be applied sheer for the first layer and for those looking for a more sheer red. With the lipstick infused with Vitamin E and Avocado oil, your lips will not be mad at you!

    YSL Rouge Pur Couture 

    Okay, back to a bit more boujee, the YSL Rouge Pur Couture line is… glamorous AF. You will not be disappointed by these reds; these will have heads turning and people asking, “What lipstick are you wearing?” If it’s anything, Yves Saint Laurent, you will get noticed with those lipsticks, and I love that for you!

    Onto a liquid red! Fenty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored. Wow, who remembers when she came out with this red? This was flying off the shelves, and of course, like all her products, she really did that. As it suggests, this is the perfect universal red with a weightless soft-matte finish, and did I mention long-lasting? This is yummy to have on your lips and rarely requires re-application. 

    Dior Rouge Forever Liquid Transfer-Proof Lipstick

    Need I say more? Luxury at its finest, as the name tells you already… it doesn’t budge, feather, or settle into fine lines. You’re getting that smooth, comfortable and intense colour that’s gonna last 12 hours. With that pointy doe foot applicator, you can use it with or without a lip liner… this liquid lipstick will have you saying, “J’adore Dior!” 

    The Atomic Shake Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks

    Onto Haus Labs by Lady Gaga!  I see a trend here with the liquid lips, but I’m not complaining! She has three reds to choose from in this line. However, my fave is the Cherry Shine, a true red. Now, with this liquid lip, you have to allow it time to set is the main thing when using this line; after allowing it to set onto your lips, it will not move all day! Need I say more? 

    MAC’s Chilli

    A bit of a different tone of red… MAC’s Chilli, a brownish orange-red. One of my all-time favourites from MAC. Honestly, this is the shade for fall time, and paired with a beautiful eyeshadow look or even just a bare eye, you get noticed with this lip. It is a mature look; I feel like a *señorita* in this lip. If you haven’t tried this unique red yet, please do! 

     Glossier Ultralip High Shine Lipstick 

    For my shy girlies, who want to dabble with a red lip but don’t want so much pigment, I got you! Glossier Ultralip High Shine Lipstick in Watermelon Red would be a good way to have a sheen to the lips but not so bold, with pigment giving you more of a lip tint finish, with several great ingredients in there, like hyaluronic acid, jojoba seed oil, etc. You will get all the moisture of a balm and a beautiful colour to go with it!

    Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist 

    Make Up For Ever Constantly On Fire is a lovely classic red. The major seller for this liquid lip is the staying power and the amazing smooth feeling on the lip, but the applicator! Those round edges and flat surfaces quickly fill in all the edges and lines of the lip, making it so effortless and seamless for application and with just one swipe, you get all the pigment you need. 10/10! 

    GXVE By Gwen Stefani

    Of course, for someone who is always rocking a red lip, it only makes sense she made one of her own! The colour Original Recipe is her true red, a clean and cruelty-free lipstick. A lot of people love this one! With a velvety-matte finish and high colour payoff, you cannot go wrong with this red and not to mention the packaging from her line is amazing!

    Nars Powermatte Long-Lasting Lipstick

    My pick from this fantastic line is Dragon Girl. One swipe coverage and gives all-day comfort, this formula feels next to nothing to wear, so comfortable and breathable. Again I want to mention the packaging on this lipstick because it is so sleek, and you just feel like a boss b****. You have to try it out for yourself. 

    The Rouge Lacquer Long-Lasting Lipstick. 

    From Sephora Collection!! There are so many colours to pick from. However, the colour 35 in I want it all being a deep red is suitable for anyone, but deeper skin tones will love it! With these only being $19, you cannot go wrong, and you will love the shine in these!

    Fenty’s Gloss Bomb in Hot Cherry

    Finishing off with Miss Riri. I wanted to give you a gloss! Fenty’s Gloss Bomb in Hot Cherry gives you a beautiful reddish tint to the lip. Nothing too overbearing, just a little *flush* if you will… I love this gloss type on days you want to give a little something but also have it be very natural. With this going viral on TikTok, as most Fenty products do, you must try this one out!

    7 Products To Build A Solid Makeup Kit For Beginners

     

    Hello beautiful, I missed you! 

    Thought of some more makeup tips for you, not that you need it *wink wink*, but since you are new to makeup, how about we build a kit with everything you need?

    1. Moisturizer 

    Firstly, you’re gonna wanna start with a moisturizer! Yes, hydration matters more than a primer. If you are new to makeup and need more time to prime, skip it and do your skincare instead!

     My fave drugstore moisturizers are the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream and the La Roche-Posay line in general, *Muah, chefs kiss* 

    2. Concealer 

    Next is concealer to cover up those bags under your eyes… Chanel bags, of course, but we wanna cover them up nonetheless. 

    As a beginner, I started with the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, which is easy to blend and provides excellent coverage! If you are a beginner to makeup, I suggest skipping foundation; you will get there, but for now, let’s keep it as natural as possible, and the fewer steps, the better! 

    3. Eyeshadow

    Next for the eyes, eyeshadow! If you want to add a little something something to your eyelids, you want to add a little colour. You must try the Rimmel Wonder Cloud Whipped Cream Eyeshadow with Built-in Primer. All the pigment you’re looking for while having that primer in there to make it last all day!

    4. Blush/Bronzer

    If we want to do blush and bronzer to sculpt out the cheeks, I recommend the e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder Palette. It’s a total dupe for the Nars Bronzer Duo, but way more affordable and still gives enough pigment to the skin!

    5. Mascara

    Onto lashes, baby, we could go on for days with recommendations of drugstore mascaras. But I’ll cut it down to 3 suggestions for now… 

    1-Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara. Yes, please! 

    2-L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara, you already know! 

    3-Essence I Love Extreme Volume Mascara, and we do too!

    6. Lippies

    Next to the lippies, if you are a fan of just a *touch* or a *sprinkle* of colour with the added hydration benefit, you will love the Baby Lips Moisturizing Balm by Maybelline; these bring back memories! The smell and feel of these are lovely, though; they also have a natural look. 

    If you’re like me and love lipstick, you will fall in love with L’Oréal Colour Riche Original Satin Lipsticks. Unique nude shades in this line are very compatible with high-end shades. 

    7. Setting Spray/Finishing Powder

    Now, let’s lock in all that hard work you did as an intro to makeup! Bravo!

    For that, I’d suggest the Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder. Again, what I used as a beginner to makeup. It’s inexpensive but did the job of setting all the cream products in place. A must-try!

    For setting spray, the NYX line of setting sprays is excellent, be sure to pick the one right for your skin concerns. Another great one is the L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set.

    And you’re ready to go!

    11 Sweat-Proof Makeup Products That Won’t Melt in the Heat

     

    That 30+ weather making sweat drip all over your face?

    And not all your makeup is coming off with the sweat, too; yikes!!!

    Tell me about it…

    With summer here, you’ll need a list of all the sweat-proof, waterproof, bulletproof, and mistake-proof makeup for all your needs. Sheesh, good luck taking it off at the end of the day.

    1. Face Sunscreen

    Let’s start with a good SPF because looking like a burnt zucchini is a no-no. We’re not doing that this summer; were you lacking last summer?

    Let’s make sure you stock up on an essential, like Sunscreen, this summer. One of my favourites has been the Laneige Hydro UV Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen with SPF 50. It leaves no white cast, gives a healthy glow to the skin and keeps your skin hydrated and nourished the entire day. I use this everyday rain or shine as a part of skin prep.

    10/10 for Sunscreen in my books. You’re welcome!

     

    2. Primer

    If you’re wearing makeup, you want to make sure it’s not moving anywhere! I have two primers that get the job done.

    First, the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. The tackiness of this primer helps my makeup last all day. You want to wait a minute for this to dry, then apply your products.

    Second is the One Size Secure The Sweat Mattifying Primer, a great primer to lock in your makeup all day. In general, One Size Beauty has a great selection to lock in your makeup all day… literally locked in, not moving.

     

    3. Concealer

    I love minimal makeup, especially in hot ass humid weather. I skip foundation altogether.

    I have been loving a drugstore product, the NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum for concealer. This one is great for spot concealing, super lightweight and gives excellent coverage.

    Another alternative is the Kosas Concealer; I love how creamy this one is, and it also gives great coverage, especially for under eyes.

     

    4. Tint

    If you’re looking for a product all over the face, I recommend using a bb cream or a skin tint.

    One of my ABSOLUTE faves is the Fenty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint. When I tell y’all, finding a shade that matches your colour in this is so easy. The coverage is buildable, so it’s nice for a natural everyday look. Highly recommend this skin tint, especially for summer use!!!

     

    5. Foundation

    Even though I skip out on foundation altogether during summer, to anyone who likes foundation in the summertime, especially for a night out, the Fenty Pro Filter Foundation is another excellent sweat-proof product, as it is mattifying.

     

    6. Eyeshadow

    *The eyes chico. They never lie*

    So if you want to do eyeshadow, I’d keep it simple and do a stick or cream to sweep on the eyelids. I have been loving the Bobbi Brown Longwear Cream Shadow Stick. It stays put all day and is very easy to apply.

     

    If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, the NYX Jumbo Eye pencils are perfect for eyeshadow, and they are highly pigmented and last a long time.

     

    7. Mascara

    Drugstore

    Next, mascara, of course! For Waterproof mascara, we’ll give you a high-end as well as a  drugstore suggestion.

    So let’s start with the drugstore. L’Oréal Lash Paradise Mascara is waterproof and smudge-proof mascara, giving your lashes breathtaking volume! When I tell you that mascara will not budge. A MUST-HAVE for a pool day.

    High-End

    Now for high-end, I love me a Lancôme Mascara, honestly any of them and with a waterproof formula. Amazing!

     

    8. Bronzer

    I almost forgot a bronzer and blush… how could I?

    Alright, so I’ve loved the GloWish Soft Radiance bronzer from Huda Beauty. The swirl two-toned bronzer gives the perfect amount of sun-kissed to the skin, and with a vegan formula, your skin will love it! If you want to swap out for just a cream bronzer, the Match Stix from Fenty Beauty is a must-try!

     

    9. Blush

    On to blush, again for a powder (this one is a hidden gem), the Rimmel Maxi Blush. This needs to get more hype; so much pigment packed in these blushes, and for such a low price!!! Try them out if you haven’t yet!

    So for cream blush… you already know it will have to be the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush by Rare Beauty, that pea-sized amount for all that pigment that’s a no-brainer.

     

    10. Lippies

    I don’t know about you, but I feel complete with SOME gloss or lip liner; it just ties a whole look together. The Refy Lip Sculpt Lip Liner is such a game-changer for lip liners.

    I apply this once, and it stays in place all day. I’d keep the look simple with a gloss or lip balm; I love the NYX Butter Glosses. It’s like lipstick and gloss in one; you have to re-apply. However, the pigment on these is impressive, and the texture is very smooth and velvety. Love it!

    11. Setting Spray

    Of course, the hairspray for the face, Setting Spray! An essential for a locked-in look that lasts you all day. Two suggestions for this one as well

    Drugstore

    First, the One Size On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray. This doesn’t even come off when you go in a pool; this is perfect for summer days.

    High-End

    Next has to be the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Setting Spray; if it’s anything you need from her line, it’s definitely this!!

    I love this setting spray and use it whenever I have a full beat; it’s refreshing and keeps my makeup fresh all day. Must have, for sure!

     Ms. Selena knew exactly what she was doing when creating this brand. I’m sure you know by now if you’ve tried any of her products. From the viral products that sell out every time they restock to the hidden gems in the brand, you may not have tried them yet. 

    But is it all worth the hype? 

    Here’s what you really need to try from the brand, and the ones you can just leave on the shelves and save yourself some coins… cause you probably need to save anyway, right? 

    1) Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter 

    Right off the bat, let me talk to you about the Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter. What a beauty… I have never touched anything so smooth and silky in my life other than these legs, periodt.

     Anyways, back to this highlighter and why you need it! This blends so seamlessly into your skin that it looks like you’re glowing from within. You can also use it on your body, giving the perfect glow all over. Although it may be sold out in many Sephora’s, keep your eyes peeled for the next restock! 

    2) Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara

    As the name suggests, it gives a perfect stroke with every application. I was pleasantly surprised with this mascara; it was long-lasting, had no running under the eyes, and gave decent length and separation to the lashes. Additionally, with a vegan formula, you should have no irritation with this formula!

    3) Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

    No surprise here, the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. What really put Rare Beauty on the map. It’s no shock once you try out these blushes for yourself. There is a colour for everyone, and the tiniest pea size amount goes a long, long way!

     With the buildable coverage, you can customize the intensity for that perfect blush coverage. I love using “Joy” and “Encourage” a muted peach for summertime and soft pink for an everyday neutral look. Love it! 

    I could tell you how you need all Rare Beauty products and why they are all great. While true, you don’t need every product on the shelf! 

    Here is a list of products you can leave in the cart without regretting it.

    1) Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil

    The oh-so-viral hit is sold out everywhere. Let me explain why you do not need this in your makeup kit. 

    Although it’s something different, it was underwhelming when applied. The cooling sensation was different and very lightweight; however, it was very basic. Once fully dried, your lips feel dry and need lip balm to regain moisture. You can leave this one behind, your welcome!

    2) Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer

    Similar to my opinion of my ex… this wasn’t all that great. I’ve experienced better-tinted moisturizers for sure. To keep it simple, the coverage was not it for me, and the colour selection ran a little orange. Again, as I’ve said to a few men in my day… it’s a no for me. 

    3) Always An Optimist 4-in-1 Mist

    Last but not least, always an Optimist 4-in-1 Mist. Many use this as a setting spray, but it only sets a little of your makeup. It doesn’t make your makeup last, as it suggests. And I’d suggest you skip this one. Many other settings sprays make your makeup last all day. Still love you, though, Selener!

    1. Moisturize Your Hair

    Dry hair is the root of all the evil in keeping your strands healthy. One of the biggest tips for maintaining healthy hair is to keep it as hydrated as possible. Weekly hydrating hair masks and regularly massaging your scalp and hair with a warm (coconut) oil does wonders for your hair.

    For weekly hydrating masks, try this DIY avocado mask for a nutritious treat for your hair that I swear by-

    Avocado Hair Mask Recipe

    INGREDIENTS:

    1 ½ avocados
    Two tablespoons of manuka honey
    Two tablespoons of olive oil
    Half a lemon, juiced

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. Add all ingredients to a blender and combine for 10-30 seconds until smooth.
    2. Apply the mixture to your hair, combing it through.
    3. Cover your masked hair with a shower cap for 45 minutes.
    4. Rinse.

    PRO TIP: Use this once a week for intense hydration to your hair.

    2.  Daily Scalp Massage

    Maintaining a clean scalp status promotes overall stronger strands. When massaging your scalp- be extra gentle. Don’t dig in with your nails. Invest in a scalp massager. Using a scalp massager removes dandruff, relieves an itchy scalp, improves blood circulation and removes dead skin cells to keep your scalp fresh and healthy. When you have a healthy scalp, you can expect thicker, healthier, and more hygienic hair.

    3. Avoid Hot Showers

    When it’s chilly outside, it is almost irresistible to shower in warm water. However, hot water showers can strip your hair of its natural oils and the moisture it naturally contains, leaving it dry and causing the scalp to become dry and flaky.

    Hair experts recommend washing your hair with lukewarm water. Finish it with a cold water rinse on your hair to lock in the moisture after every wash.

    4. Less is more: Avoid Washing Hair Every Day

    Using shampoo on your hair too often will strip it of its natural oils by removing its protective oils and making it dry and irritated. Shampoo your hair twice a week. To keep your hair happy, use a sulphate-free shampoo at all times.

    If you love changing your hair colour, look for the best colour shampoo that doesn’t have any harsh chemicals.

    5. Don’t Forget Your Conditioner

    Every time you shampoo your hair, you must follow it with a conditioner. Why? A shampoo removes all the grime, oil, and buildup in your hair, but a conditioner helps your hair keep its natural hydration.

    Apply conditioner mid-shaft downward towards the ends, and while the product is still in your hair, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle. You can leave the conditioner in for five to seven minutes, leaving you with lush and shiny hair.

    (Don’t even get us started on 2-in-1 shampoos. It’s the one product you should never put in your hair).

    6. The AfterCare

    Your hair care after is just as essential. After washing their hair, most people rub their hair to remove excess water or wrap a towel around the top of their heads. Hair experts need you to stop doing this. Instead, gently squeeze your wet hair with a soft towel and let it air dry as much as possible. Apply a leave-in conditioner or a serum to ensure your hair retains moisture after washing. Lastly, use a heat protectant before using any heating tools on your hair.

    What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from running a successful restaurant?

    The quality of food is more important than the presentation… for the long run. A restaurant is only good as its team. Not a single role is less important. If the dishes aren’t clean, we can’t serve our customers. 

     What have you sacrificed (both personally and professionally) at each stage of your career?

    Evenings and weekends socializing as that are the busiest time. I’ve missed family weddings or functions. I have to prioritize socializing and really ask myself, is it that important for me to attend every gathering, or can I skip some? Lots of sleepless nights, as creative ideas generally come to my mind at 3 AM, so I quickly take out my journal or laptop, so I don’t forget it the next day. 

    What’s the biggest learning experience in your career? 

    It’s best to learn and adapt to every role in the business to be truly helpful to your team. If someone is not feeling well – help them out and learn what they do in case you need to do it yourself. 

     When are you the most inspired?

    I’m inspired by authenticity, individuality and a person being themself!

    I love and enjoy wearing Indian ethnic wear. I feel my best self in a suit or a lehenga.

     What’s the best career advice you’d share for women?

    Don’t dull your sparkle to “fit in.” Go out there, own your art and your voice. There is only one of you. And you are irreplaceable! 

    What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?

    I love to travel. I’ve booked a flight to Paris within a 24 hr window from when the flight took off – all because you only have one life to live! We work hard (whether that’s at home or in the office – it’s important to treat ourselves too =)

    What’s your current favourite piece of clothing that you own?

    My light blue ripped jeans! They are comfy, and it’s been a summer staple for me. 

    What’s the one thing you wish you knew at age 19?

    Take life one day at a time. Don’t stress out about where you’ll be in 5 years. Just do your best with the day ahead of you. Everything will fall into place. 

     Besides your phone or wallet, what are some of your must-have purse items?

    I usually wear the Mac foundation as the base. I cleanse twice in the nighttime (just to make sure my makeup is completely off) and moisturize. Most importantly – reminding myself to drink tons of water! (I’m still working on that).

    How do you care for your hair?

    I use Pantene’s Rosemary sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. And I apply coconut oil once a week (usually Sundays). 

    Lastly, what’s your best advice for women?

    Learn to embrace change, don’t live in a victim mindset and say “I don’t know” when you don’t know.

    How to Rock A Bold Lip Colour?

    “I swear I cannot pull off amazing bold lips!” I cried out to a friend one evening while getting dressed to get to a dinner reservation. “I see so many of you rock stunning bold lips. But, when I try and do a bold look, I hate how it looks,” I added further. So, when lines like Fenty Beauty expand their popular lipstick palette to include shades like wild lilac and wicked green, the last thing I felt was intimidation. And, that’s the last thing you should feel too! Later that week, I texted my most trusted makeup artist turned friend, Chantel, to spill her secrets of rocking a gorgeous bold lip. Here she shares her four best tips:

    1) Exfoliate lips 

    Exfoliating lips are so healthy for removing dead skin. It eliminates flakey skin that builds up over time. Exfoliating lips can soften the lips and make them naturally plump. 

    Here are some of my favourites: Sugar Lip Polish Exfoliator, these fun and delicious lip scrubs from Lush (all vegan!!). 

    Fun Little Tip: You can also use a toothbrush to exfoliate your lips. It immediately softens and plumps the lips. Keep in mind, don’t use the brush too harshly. Instead, use light and gentle strokes.

    2) Moisturize + Hydrate

    Buff away all the dryness on the lips with a blissfully buttery and super hydrating lip balm. “I’ve been using the Biossance squalane+rose vegan lip balm religiously,” advises Chantel, my gorgeous makeup artist. “Lip balm is also an excellent base to lipstick and allows it to glide on easier and gives your lips a silky smooth finish.” she further adds. 

    For deeper hydration, use overnight lip masks. I love the lip mask by LANEIGE. Although a sleeping mask, I’ve been using this mask as lipgloss as well, and it makes my lips look glossy and hydrated. A little goes a long way. 

    Little Tip: For sensitive lips, I would avoid using lip balms that have harsh chemicals, alcohol, and menthol in it. It can lead to skin irritation and cause an allergic reaction.

    3) Line the Lips

    “Adding a lip liner before and after a bold lip helps to define and bring back your lip shape, as it can sometimes get hidden within a bold lip colour,” suggests Chantel.

     Depending on the look you’re going for with a bold lip colour, a lip liner can help achieve several looks. For instance- you could create an ombre lip effect and change your lip’s shape (bigger or smaller). Additionally, you could intensify the colour by adding a soft layer of lip liner over the lipstick.

    c) Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lip Liner

    Category: Medium priced

    The variation in nude colours sold me on these lip liners and that they were super creamy and long-lasting. The colours are just intense enough to give a beautiful wash of colour to wear all over the lip.

    d) MAC Cosmetics

    Category: High-End 

    We love MAC Cosmetics! For the liners from MAC, a little goes a long way, and it lasts forever!

    4) Fill in the lips with your favourite bold colour:

    If you want to try an intimidating colour for yourself, don’t think you can’t go for it! The first step would be to research what colour suits your skin tone best. The easiest colour to start with is orange. It’s light, fun and fresh! And, from there, experiment with several different shades of the colour.

    At the end of the day, it’s just lipstick. It’s fun and temporary. You’ve got nothing to lose. Make up routine, you just a got lot more exciting! Muahhhhhh!!!
